Most drivers on the grid are more than happy to tell the world that they want to beat Michael Schumacher this year, but the seven-times World Champion says he is more than ready for the battle ahead.

Jenson Button has already warned the German that “no one’s going to give him an inch” this year while Mark Webber says “it’ll be a bloody hard season for him”.

Schumacher, though, insists he would not have returned to Formula One if he wasn’t prepared for a fight.

“This is what I am here for, and I am confident we can play a role in this fight,” he said on his official website. “If we win it at the end will be a different question, as always in sports. But our entire team is extremely motivated, as am I.

‘McLaren have invited FIA to inspect their wing’
Charlie Whiting, the head of the FIA’s technical department, has been invited to McLaren to inspect their controversial rear wing.

Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that two of McLaren’s main rivals, Ferrari and Red Bull, had asked the FIA for clarification regarding the design of their rear wing.

“There’s a bit of a fuss over McLaren’s rear wing. They have a slot on it (that affects the air flow) and they can pick up a lot of straight-line speed,” said Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.

Lewis Hamilton concedes mistakes were made during his first year at McLaren where he “misinterpreted and misunderstood” the situation when he came up against double World Champ Fernando Alonso.
The animosity between the two 2007 McLaren drivers reached fever point during qualifying at the Hungarian GP where underhanded tactics in the pits came to the fore.
At the time, Alonso accused the team of favouring Hamilton by “holding me back”, although the race stewards had a different view point and stripped the Spaniard of pole position, effectively handing it to Hamilton.

Michael Schumacher has warned that he might have to “close himself up a bit” in an attempt to protect his privacy.
During the height of his career, Schumacher was often seen as ruthless and arrogant due to his performances on the track, but very few people got to see the other side of him as he was very private man. When it came to the fans, there was no middle ground as you either loved the man who hated him.

However, since announcing his comeback to the sport, the seven-times World Champion appears to have mellowed a bit and many of those in the anti-Schumacher camp are more than happy to see him back.
The 41-year-old, though, is aware that he’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
When asked by the official Formula One website about being a love-hate figure, Schumacher answered: “I simply think that if you are around as long as I have been there will always be people who follow you more and some who follow you less.

Michael Schumacher Joins Mercedes GP for 2010

Schumacher who is 41 next month appears to have signed a one year deal with the Brackley based outfit that sees him team up again with Ross Brawn, the man who guided him to his seven world title victories whilst at Ferrari.

Schumacher is set to team up with fellow compatriot Nico Rosberg who has already been drafted into the team that one both last year’s driver and constructor’s championshps in their first year. German newspaper Bild has acknowledged that Schumacher will earn around £6m in 2010 with an option to continue the following year.

We remember that Michael Schumacher was forced to call off a planned comeback as a temporary stand-in for the injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa last season because of a neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident.But Schumacher is known to have had recent medical checks and it appears likely he has been given the all clear to return to Formula One.
